Porch Lights

Among the trees a castle
high up on the ridge
watching a great river
as we hike past it.

Stately columns to the clouds
with rose colored stone
saints reflected on stain glass
walls impressive hewn.

Let us stop and rest awhile
call this place our own
insist we are the government
here for our new home

If someone asks about it
tell them we live here
and have for generations
are born to it my dears.

Ownership and autumn leaves
always are a pair
watch out for the water rise
and broken dams up there.

Here we have some papers
there we raise more tax
everywhere we celebrate
holidays and plaques

Water is for everyone
and castles float away
governments as well are done
nothing ever stays.

Living in a castle briefly
or a van perhaps
wrapped in a wool blanket
or planted on a rack.

Let 's go and swim the river
watch our lives pass by
dive into forgotten
with our constant Guides.

Catch up with the others
blaze into the night
from a hovel filled with trouble
to stars now dim porch lights.
