Diamonds

Diamonds ***

He read a book when he was ten

about a baseball player

opened up his mind a bit

to what can happen

later.

He had gotten just one hit

in two years playing ball

it was after a long time

spent in the hospital.

In his third year trying

up there once again

facing fastest pitcher

with just his innocence.

Deep into the book he was

not at a baseball game

couldn't hit worth anything

and no one else to blame.

Still back home sprawled on in bed

no shots bed baths nurse dates

relaxing reading all was well

strike out get back it's late.

But feeling better

just this time

not himself at all

not afraid of anything

especially the ball.

Which soon arrived and went back out

high above the fence

never give up

little Babe.
