Plums In The Night

I watch you watch the television

and know that you are fine
resting after all the hours
working all the time. 

You think of things to do
stay busy
I think of things to don't
together we are everyone

and survive quite well.

Together we accomplish things
I work sometimes or plan
in the night when you are sleeping
do my best think-un.

Then great breakfasts
count on you
a wealth of tasty food
finally talk about

the plans we're thinking through.

I cannot tell you all the ways
this could have gone so wrong. 

But it didn't I'm amazed
I want to show
you how.   

Get the plums
I think we're ready
when the moon is high

I'll pretend I just got in
while you rest on the sly.

I'll leave a note
says something hoary
add the bit about plums

eat them messy
suck the blushing skin 
lap right out of them  
run around the living room
thankful for ripeness.  

Bounce into the bed
with you
I thought the fruit
was gone?! 

Clearly you misread the rules
Or just have been undone.
