Mirrors And Smoked Glass

Sitting in a bar one day

not having any drinks

talking to the manager

a friend from then

baking.

All the bottles on the wall

not beckoning

because

I sit upon St Peter's ledge

and would regret a fall.

As a lovely lady

sits down next to me

scent of a spring flower

smiling

so friendly.

Knows my buddy

starts to laugh

briefly leans around

Nonie isn't here today

and I am old

unarmed.

Trouble has another name

known as b-a-r

mine has gone away

for now

and doesn't want to start.

Bar or bear old Davie's song

Crockett's wild frontier

patch the cracks

in that damn bell

now liberty is here !

Or maybe joy is coming

I don't want a drink

or a new relationship

that lasts about a week.

Fifty years of wanting

mirrors and smoked glass

one hand unclasps

and morning

now no regrets

at last.

Waiting To Reappear
