Trees sway they have a point
and need to write the sky
sharing all their branches
perhaps a storm tonight.
Colorful the leaves blushing
streets this morning cool
parading all the little ones
red cheeked forward
to school.
Step into the school bus
hold tightly to the rail
and your little lunch box
bus driver smiles
then sail!
Dive between the buddies
and the window cool
condensation on it
writing names
mom too.
By now she's at her job site
bus driver focused on
all the eighteen wheelers
escorting kids downtown.
Fourteen lanes of traffic
fifth grader lifts the latch
just a little buzzer there
let driver know he's back.
At the school they all get off
the driver checks the seats
finds a little lunchbox
and takes it to the teach.
Drives the bus back to the barn
locks it up goes home
to his van next to the pond
catch fish for lunch alone.
Say a little prayer
talk to saints in bed
read the sunset
hear the trees
keep the children
safe in traffic
no mistakes
and rest.
